Looking Back

A lot can change in a year.  I recall wanting to write a letter to myself at this time last year in hopes that I could look back a year later and see if or how things had improved.  Thing is, I was too frustrated with my circumstances to bring myself to sit down and write about it.

It’s crazy to me how much can happen in a years time.  Those who know me know that I’m an eager self starter always ready for the next adventure.  My life changed almost over night when I had the opportunity to move to California, now over two years ago.  READ MORE

Significant Insignificance

Have you ever done something small or seemingly insignificant for someone and later come to discover that it meant the world to them?  Often times the most minuscule and meaningless tasks can make the biggest difference to a person who is hurting or in need of encouraging. READ MORE

Childlike Faith

Faith is hard sometimes.  It shouldn’t be.  But it is.  Trusting in the unknown.  Relying on someone we can’t see and hoping to make some sense out of a seemingly impossible situation.  God doesn’t fault us for wondering.  He just asks us to trust.  He commands us not to worry.

I say it shouldn’t be hard because if God really is who He claims to be in the Bible, then we truly have nothing to worry about.  One who “knew us before He formed us in the womb”  who knows the number of hairs on our head and who’s monthly calendar spans not 30 days but 30,000 years.

Its safe to say if we truly believe that, why is faith so hard? READ MORE

Just a Glimpse

Have you ever asked God for just a glimpse?  Somewhere between the agony of waiting and the bewilderment of just not knowing what He has in store, have you found yourself asking Him to give you a little sneak peak of what lies ahead?

I have.  I do every day.  In fact I try to reason with Him.  “God I could be so much more purposeful about the call you have on my life if you would just reveal it to me.  I’m not asking for all of it.  Just a glimpse.” READ MORE

Leaving No Room for Doubt Part 2

Loyalty in relationships does not start when you say “I do” or even commit to dating.

There is much wisdom in that statement.  I’ve had several girls tell me over the years, “I don’t have to submit until we’re married.”  Ok if you want to get technical about that verse, yeah it says “Wives submit to your husbands.”  But if you’re not practicing submission while your dating or courting someone, how are they suppose to know how you’ll act in a marriage?  Would you date a guy that says “I’ll start loving you after we get married?”

The same goes for practicing loyalty.  I hear people say all the time, “I’m very loyal when I’m in a relationship” but what does that really mean?  To some that means they don’t cheat on the person.  To others that means they’re committed but they still have their own group of friends which can include any number of guy/girls and even ex boyfriend/girlfriends.  To others, and the idea I’m encouraging, it means you go out of your way to let the other person know that they are your one and only. Waiting With Purpose

I’m in one of those moods.  For all of the excitement and traveling I’ve been doing and the experiences I’ve had over the last couple of years, I wouldn’t change a thing.  But every once in a while I get in a funk and get to wondering like so many, “When’s it gonna happen?  When am I going to meet someone?”

It seems like that, above all other areas, is the one young people struggle with the most.  And rightly so.  God said in Genesis, “It is not good for man to be alone.”  We are wired for relationship.  In fact that’s why God made us in the first place.  To live in relationship with Him. READ MORE

What Makes You Come Alive

I’ve told my story at least a hundred times.  I’ve talked about setting my sights on Southern California somewhere around the fifth grade with every intention of living and working in the midst of the industry that I love.  To some that’s all it is, an industry.  It’s a hobby that I’m pursuing and have been able to make living at for a little while.

At 25, I’ve had more jobs than I can count.  I started mowing lawns and working in my fathers hardware store at ten years old.  I’ve worked in retail, management, recreation and residence life.  I’ve served as an equipment manager for a football program and paddled people through class IV rapids.  I’ve hung drywall, gutted houses and operated heavy equipment.  Most recently I quite a “corporate job” in pursuit of what many consider a hobby.  READ MORE

Simple acts of Service

I’m staying at a holiday in Express in Delmont PA.  Not the first place I would expect to get a lesson in service but sometimes we find the most amazing things in the most peculiar places. READ MORE
