Refresh, Recoup and Remember Why You’re Working so Hard

A couple of weeks ago I let my hair down.  Instead of spending my Friday night out with friends, wrting, or working on my computer, I loaded up my ATV and headed to the track for a Friday night motocross race under the lights.  You might be wondering why that’s such a big deal since I work in that industry and pretty much live for the rush of riding, jumping and going fast, but since a severe accident that sidelined me almost a year ago, I’ve been slow to getting back in the saddle.

It’s not so much because I’m leery of another accident.  Mostly just other factors like time money and my intense focus on other pursuits that have kept me from doing the one thing that I truly love.  Funny how that happens huh?  We spend so much time working towards a goal to be able to work in or around the thing we love the most and then get so wrapped up in the pursuit that we forget why we started down this road to begin with; because it’s what we love.

No matter what your “it” is that you’re pursuing, it’s important to take some time out every once in a while and be reminded of just why you’re doing what your doing.  All too often we get so focused on the end goal and everything that we’re doing to reach it that we ignore other things that are equally if not more important like our health, family and other relationships.

Taking time out to be refreshed and reminded of why you’re sacrificing so much now will help you refocus and re-energize to keep working towards that goal or dream.  That there is a payoff for all those late nights, lost weekends and the time your investing now, to be able to do what you love in the future.

That’s what Friday night was for me.  I don’t consider myself a racer and the aches and pains in my body would support that.  BUT, I had so much fun even just practicing before the race even started that I could have called it a night and it would have been well worth the money and time away from the computer.  It reenergized me and reminded me of just why I’m sacrificing so much now, to be able to do what I love full time in the future.

What are some ways that you step back and get re-energized and refreshed?
