Speaking
I love people. Whats more I love seeing the light come on in someone’s eyes when they share about something they’re passionate about. I’ve spent the last three years in hot pursuit of a dream I’ve had for most of my life and now I want to encourage others to do the same. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to speak to college classes, students and small groups on topics ranging from recognizing and pursuing your passion to developing healthy God honoring relationships with the opposite sex. Below are three presentations I gear most of my writing towards and would love the opportunity to speak or share with your group, class or church.
What Makes you Come Alive?
- What would happen if you pursued your passion? What if you explored the little inklings in your life that said you want to be a police officer, a fireman or a pastry chef? What if all the doodles you drew when you were suppose to be studying algebra meant you had a gift in art or design? Where might you be now if you’d continued on the path you started down before settling for the next best thing? I believe deep inside everyone is the desire to do something. Maybe you’re a school teacher but you always wanted to be a nurse. Maybe you’re an administrator but you always wanted to be a graphic designer. Family, kids and life in general somehow got in the way but you’ve never quite given up on your desire to do whatever your “it” job is. I’d love to share from my journey of dreaming big, having countless dead end jobs and ultimately reaching a point of doing what I love.
Become an Expert in your field
- It’s no long just about Who you know, but more and more frequently it has become about Who knows you? Are you the first person that comes to mind when someone asks about a given subject? When someone needs a babysitter, a baker, or an accountant, are you the first person who runs through their mind? In this presentation I’ll explore the topics of networking and building credibility so that others will look to you as an expert in your particular field. The experience I have gained in my own industry is applicable across the board. I’ll share with you how networking with the right people landed me in several major magazines, on industry leading websites and even a couple gigs with ESPN. Key points I will address are:
- The art of showing up
- Learning how to Just Ask
- The necessity of building credibility in your field
The best pickup line in church “God told me you were the one.”
- After growing up in he church and attending a private Christian college, I’ve been navigating the dicey waters of the Christian dating world for some time. Church leaders are telling us to quit wasting time because marriage is just so wonderful and in the same breath telling us to kiss dating goodbye until we meet “the one.” Women are frustrated with the lack of real men whom will actually treat them like a lady and guys are hesitant to pursue for fear she’ll plan a wedding after one date. Churches frown upon the concept of casual dating and young people are so starved for affection they fall headlong for the first person that shows them the least bit of interest. In this presentation I share from my own experience (successes and failures) and address some real issues that cause unnecessary problems when it comes to having meaningful God honoring relationships with the opposite sex. Just a few of the areas I’ll address are:
- The importance of learning to communicate
- Becoming the person who will attract the person you ultimately want to be with
- The slippery slope into inappropriate physical affection
- Realizing that you’ll still be OK if he or she is “just not that into you.”
